Song Biography – “Rejoice!”

I asked the Lord for a simple song that would encourage the Church to praise, even when going through hard times. We serve an AMAZING God, but often we need to face some difficult times in this life. We sometimes (often) have to make a decision to rejoice and praise God. Our feeling of joy is not relative to our circumstances. It is a deep knowing that, despite feeling terrible because of what we are going through, we can be assured of God’s care and provision of all our needs (Habakkuk 3:17). He truly will never leave nor forsake us (Deuteronomy 31:6). In this we Rejoice!

“The joy of the Lord is our strength” (Nehemiah 8:10b). When we feel weak is exactly when we should rejoice. As we praise our joy is released. When our joy is ignited in our hearts we are strengthened. We are strengthened in God’s presence because in His presence there is joy (Psalm 16:11). We are strengthened because we realise that “The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving” (Psalm 28:7)

I want this to be an exciting praise song that the church can enjoy singing in services and at home. I want it to be a foot stomping, hand clapping, fun song. I want to see young and old swaying to it’s beat. I want hearts to be lifted up as the people sing it. Church worship teams should find it easy to play. I want your heart to fill with joy as you sing along.

On a personal note. I have wrestled with anxiety and depression most of my adult life. As a Christian I could not understand why I kept losing my joy. I have walked a long road with this. The Lord has taken me through many things, and at the end (so far) I can say that the only place I find my joy and strength is in His Presence. I have learned to rush to my piano when I feel down or distressed. Then I worship until I meet with Him, and then I find my peace and joy again. Nothing else works. No person or activity (except maybe when I paint, but that is also when I connect with God) can give me this. He alone touches me in my innermost being, and that is why I can sing this song.

Please have fun while you are praising God with this song!

Blessings,
Karah
