Song Biography – “Dance of Life”

Dance of Life is a metaphor about your relationship with God, and with your spouse, being like a dance.

God gave me this illustration to explain why He expects us to submit to authority (1 Corinthians 11 v 3).

As a strong-minded woman, I personally have struggled with the concept of submission, both to God and to my husband. This world has strong feminist views about this, but I knew that God, as creator of all living things, knew what He was doing when he set it up. I just didn’t understand it completely and asked Him to make it clear.

One day He reminded me of a time when I was still in high school and was exposed to ‘sokkie’, a two-step close dance, for the first time. I love dancing, and really wanted to have fun dancing with the boys, but my first attempts were not very successful. I kept trying to lead the dance and we just crashed into each other or other dancers. I remember the guys trying to teach me, telling me to relax and trust them, that they would direct me which way to go with the pressure of their hand on the small of my back. It was only when I did that that I began to have fun.

And just like in a dance, two leaders in a marriage will only end in clashes and strife. However, I don’t believe that God intends the man to ‘lord it’ over his wife. A good husband will listen to his wife’s opinion, but ultimately, when it comes down to it, all final decisions should be made by him. He may choose his way, or his wife’s way, depending on what will work best. A good husband is submitted to Christ Jesus, who will direct and guide him, and also teach the husband to love his wife tenderly, just as He loves the Church.

Your relationship with Christ, as well as your marriage, can be described as a “Dance of Life”, where you submit and relax and see where the Master Dancer leads you.

Blessings,
Karah

Scriptures:

“But there is one thing I want you to know: The head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man, and the head of Christ is God.”
1 Corinthians 11:3 (NLT)

“For wives, this means submit to your husbands as to the Lord. For a husband is the head of his wife as Christ is the head of the church. He is the Saviour of his body, the church. As the church submits to Christ, so you wives should submit to your husbands in everything. For husbands, this means love your wives, just as Christ loved the church. He gave up his life for her to make her holy and clean, washed by the cleansing of God’s word.

He did this to present her to himself as a glorious church without spot or wrinkle or any other blemish. Instead, she will be holy and without fault. In the same way, husbands ought to love their wives as they love their own bodies. For a man who loves his wife actually shows love for himself.”
Ephesians 5:22-28 (NLT)
