I thought I heard you

I thought I heard you sing
On the radio today.
Your voice as smooth and misty
As a morning after rain.

I carried on regardless,
My ears straining to hear
The words of love you whispered
In to my lonely ear.

It was a song of love,
Hidden in the heart.
Unbidden, unwelcome,
Yet too painful to depart.

You sang of dreamy places,
We never can frequent.
You sang of bound up kisses
Through the airwaves they were sent.

But as I listened longer
Another voice was there.
It was not you singing love songs.
My heart had been laid bare.
